Question: We need to locate some post tension cables inside a concrete slab on the 34th floor of a building in Melbourne before we do some core holes for a new bathroom that is going in. Can your gear see inside the concrete and tell us where these cables are?
Yes, we can certainly help you with that. We won’t actually use the traditional cable locator that we use out in the street. Instead we will use our concrete scanner: it is a ground penetrating radar with a 1600 MHz antenna, which is ideal for locating items in concrete slabs.
In fact, as well as locating the post tension cables for you, we will also be able to look through the slab to see if there are any other anomalies that might be present, such as power cables and water pipes. We will also be able to see the reinforcing bars in there as well.
What we can do for you is mark them all out on the concrete slab, this way you can try to avoid hitting any of them.
