Avoid doing millions of dollars in damage to underground assets

This is the headline from an article that I have been quoted in.

I recently had a request from the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia to make some comments on Dial Before You Dig and offer any tips I had for those wanting not to damage underground utilities for an upcoming article they had planned. Of course, I was more than happy to help out, and I jumped on the phone to answer a couple of questions and as you would expect from me before I knew it I’d been talking for ages about everything from damages that have occurred, plans that are pretty crap, ground penetrating radar, I even went through how you go about digging down by hand to pothole the cable or pipe you are trying to locate.  Those of you that know me, know I can get pretty carried away when talking about the prevention of damage to underground utilities.

Anyway, in case you’re interested at all, here is the link to the article http://www.ipwea.org/blogs/intouch/2016/01/13/how-you-can-protect-underground-assets-when-excavating

I think anyone can comment on their website, but if you can’t and you want to make comment on what I have said in it, then feel free to do so below.
