Question: I am digging on private property, why do you still need to get Dial Before You Dig plans?

Answer:

Before we come out onsite and do any cable and/or pipe locating for you we need to put a Dial Before You Dig request in and obtain all the plans for the area in which we are working. This is regardless of whether it is private property, a road reserve, a school, a hospital or anywhere else.

Besides, you might be surprised on what comes back. Most people think that Dial Before You Dig plans only cover services in the street, but they actually cover both services inside private property and services out in the street.

Yes, they might not have all the underground pipes or cables you have on site on the plans you get back, but hey it’s a free service and the plans generally come back relatively fast, (have you seen the video of the Dial Before You Dig request we did that shows how long it takes for the plans to come back in? If not then click this link to watch it) so really what have you got to lose.

And don’t forget if it is all too hard for you to put a request in, then just let us know and we can do it for you. But you will still need to read over it all yourself, so that you can get a full understanding of your requirements for working within the vicinity of the underground cables and pipes that are in the area. As well as understanding the no go zones, and what equipment you can and can’t use. And this is for each utility provider, but we will do the best we can to help you out as well.
