Project Management - Service Locating with the works

As well as offering individual services such as, Service Locating or Concrete Scanning or Acoustic Locating, Geelong Cable Locations can also offer Project Management in which we will look after the whole damage prevention process to protect the underground assets you have on site.

Sometimes this might just involve us using multiple different services that we offer all on one project. For example, using Service Locating to try and locate some of the assets on site, then using Ground Penetrating Radar to locate those that can’t be found with the locater. Then using Acoustic Locating to locate those that can’t be found with the radar. Then using Non Destructive Digging to expose the services, that are still on site but have not been able to be located with any of the other methods. Once everything has been located, then going around and picking up the points of each underground utility with a survey GPS and then drawing it up on a CAD plan so that we can give the client a full plan of all the underground services that are present out on their site.

Other times Project Management might involve us organising all the other aspects that are needed, in order for us to complete our locating works.  This may include; getting permits to work, organising traffic control, rail access, confined space entry, police checks and so forth.

Running crews, organising everything, and making sure it goes smoothly and all the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed is something that takes experience, knowledge and, at times, some practical common sense. Trying to label all this as a service isn’t easy — so we just call it “project management”

To give you an example of a job which we managed, take a look at the project that is featured in the video below, we had to seek permission from VicTack, then obtain permits from them, organise rail supervision, found surveyors that were rail accredited and then coordinated the job to happen on a Sunday.
Luckily we have a fair bit of experience behind us on these sorts of jobs and often we will be asked to project manage jobs we work on. The majority of it we do in house, but at the same time, we have built up a good list of reliable contacts, both in Geelong and in Melbourne, so if there is something we can’t do we will know someone that can help us with it, in order to achieve the desired outcome.

If we can help you with any project you’ve got on or have coming up, then feel free to get in touch, we will be happy to have a chat and see how we can help you out.
