Pay for past work

Question: Why should I pay you for a job you did for us 3 months ago? We ended up hitting a gas service that feeds one of the houses that was in the area.

Answer:

ok, firstly, if you hit something on a site on which we performed locating, we need to be informed straight away so we can come out and do an incident report. Secondly, you are paying for our time and effort in performing the locating works.

If you feel we should pay for the cost for the repair of the gas pipe, then that needs to be dealt with separately.

You need to put in a claim to us requesting reimbursement for the costs of the gas pipe repairs. If we make a mistake, then we are more than happy to deal with it at the time an incident occurs—but we won’t take responsibility for something that happened three months ago and that we are only just finding out about now.
